Well , all the boats are tied and hatches battend down for me here in key largo. So now im ready to follow the storm right up to the 1715 fleet beach sites. Im gonna try to get out there as soon as possible after the stom moves through. This should be an epic beach erosion event. Ive been waiting for sand that was put on my spot 12 years ago to get swept away. This might be the best storm event for treasure hunting in years. I used to live in vero and saw some great beach erosion storms but this one might take the cake. Get out there everyone. Bring it on Matthew !!
Coins, coins, coins!!!!!!

As bad as I hate to say it I wish I would have taken mu vacation now instead of before

I'm in the Brevard area on the beach and i am looking forward to jumping out there as soon as the storm passes. I feel the excitement as well!

Along with 10,000 other pirate looters! Good luck I'm going to try my luck up north of "The Bull".

$5.00 Bucks says you won't find your Treasure.

I think it will be great all up and down the coast. Palm beach to the carolinas.

I'll be driving three hours to try my luck !

Your darn right , I think its about three and a half for me. I dont really go up unless its a major beach erosion thing. I think a lot of sand is gonna move. Its getting windy down here already. 15-20 some showers here and there.

Shoot I'd go even if I had to sleep in my car I just don't have the gas money;)

Funny you should say that. I read a story of a guy that slept in his car at wobasso beach so he could get there first. He hid when they evacuated the island and then slept in his car. He had to ride out the storm and then had to traverse wreckage and high surf but he found coins. Its on the net somewhere.

They are closing all outer beach areas (mandatory evacuations). The thing will be when will they allow people back in after the storm. I figure it may be a couple of days after the storm before open to the public. It should be great for hunting, but still don't want the storm to cause destruction to property.

Hopefully no harm is done to personal property or human life but wonder do they ever come in with tractors to grade back out the sand washed inland

Just watching (from a safe distance) all this go down, prayers for everybody involved, have a safe trip and ill be watching the "Today's Finds" forum for all that Spanish gold and silver next week! Ddf

Be careful. Death is not worthy of any relic or coin. The roads may be closed. For some of you younguns' google "Hurricane Andrew" for a look at what a monster can do. Don't go in the water, rip tides will get you. It will probably we better in a few weeks when the dozers come in to try and rebuild dunes. That's when we found the good stuff after Sandy. For five weeks after Sandy I found squat. Then the dozers really got to work and I found 20 coins, including a gold full Guinea from George III on the high water mark. Dozers had moved the sand around, they finally left and I got the goodies.

All kidding aside , everyone stay safe, keep your heads down and your powder dry. Were starting to get the feeder bands now here in the keys. I will get up to the 1715 beach sites but it really dosent look good for much of floridas east coast. I will be praying for my friends in vero and sebastion. Couple of my friends will be coming to the keys today to escape matthews wrath. I fear many houses will wash into the sea. My family owend several homes on andros island and I fear the worst as the eye is rolling up the tounge of the ocean right now only 20 -30 miles off shore. Many of my closest friends live in the bahamas and all communication is down now. I spend up to 6 months a year in the bahamas every year for work. Some of the areas I fish wont be the same. Andros, chub cay, nassau, the exumas will be affected by this storm. Ill post some pics later. Ive got to go and deploy the A-10 fenders for the big boat. Shes a 65 viking strung up like a spider with 1 inch lines. Stay safe first get the treasure when its over.

There is a major difference between riding out a category 1 and a category 3 or 4 hurricane in your car. It is projected to be a cat 4.......

CategorySustained Winds
