I live in Sumter and get to hunt in the farmland in the southwestern part of the county. The biggest relic find was the Confederate train that was blown up in the Manchester area. My usual haunt is sidewalks. When the state or city decides to replace sections of sidewalk I do try to look under everything that they remove. What part of the county are you going to be in?

RevJoel,

Thanks. I believe she lives in the southern part of the county on Lorene Drive.

Lorene Drive...Alright, that is within a ten mile radius of two old schools, one is still in uses as a church facility (Bethel) and the other, Pinewood unused to my knowledge. Also you will be near the site of the old town of Manchester, which is long gone. Lore has it that the gambling halls, dram houses and houses of ill repute were in a plentiful array and not a single church in sight!

LoL....It's sure good to hear about all the potential. I'm only going to be there Sat/Sun, so I'll only have a small amount of time to poke around. That being said, I'll be going up there this summer for a week. I'll definitely have time between now and then to do more research into the areas you've told me about. I appreciate the info greatly....Have a wonderful weekend RevJoel and HH to ya!! Will talk to ya when I get back to let ya know how I did. :)

When you come back in the Summer, I'll pack a cooler and show you some of the old farm steads that might turn out interesting.

Came back from Sumter last weekend, got to search some woods for all of about 40 minutes. Found a dime a brass nut and what may be an old lock. I'm not quite sure until I get it cleaned up. I had a good time though and that's all that counts. No doubt, I'll be back. I appreciate everyones help, advice and knowledge......Thanks.

HH to all. ;D
