my wife Caroline loves to hunt artifacts
we take our 9th granddaughter with us when we go walking
i made her a walking stick so she can imitate grandpa and grandma (Caroline and me) when we walk the fields on weekends
it is so much fun watching her try to do what we do, (poking her little baby stick around in the ground, picking up pieces, getting complemented) I am gonna put a picture here of my stick (on top) and grand baby (Kytalin's) stick below
I would post an image of my wife's (Caroline) stick but it is in her pickup and she is at work now
mine is made of cedar and baby kytalin's is made from sugar maple
i am currently making her a better one of black walnut which i will post soon
lars

Nice looking "flippin' sticks" larson. I had a really nice one at one time that I had decorated but I broke it hitting gold balls I was finding in the field I was in so now I just use an old broom handle with a 12 penny nail in it. It ain't pretty, but it's functional.

Nice sticks. I actually use an old golf club shaft. A worker at the MacGregor Golf Club plant here gave it to me years ago. The plant has been closed for over 5 years.

I am unsure. It is a hickory shaft I think with metal tip and handle. I bought it for $5 at a church thrift store about 15 years ago. It almost looks like an ice hammer/pick for climbing icy things. I always wondered what it was for, it is perfect for hunting Indian stuff.

lars, I love your hunting sticks, that will be very special to your grandaughter someday. Even if she loses interest, make sure it's put up for her to have again. and wow, gl, that's a dandy! How long is it? I want one of those, a handled walking cane, that serves dual purpose? Cool! Can I make a mold on that handle to cast in bronze? ;D

larson, i share you`re passion for the hobby. i have for 42 years. i can1t tell you how many times i have shown you`re posts to people who were aw`inspired! the greatest find of all is sharing the day with family or planning for it! thinking ahead and making ones walking stick is rewarding to me and others in my family. unfortunately i lost my stick last year on a river-run. no big deal, i`ll make another and think about the great finds ahead when i use it. god bless you and yours, paleoman

Nice sticks Steve.
I've been using a 10" flat tip screwdriver for 20 years.
I think it has special powers.
I also have a bad back. You get me?
I'm gonna start making me a stick.

This is my walking stick its made from a hard rake. I cut the rake part off and sharpened the ends. It's a little more than a walking stick though, in addition to holding me up it has many other practical uses like picking up cans on the side of the road, I dig roots with it sometimes when I don't feel like getting the digger outta my pack, I occasionally flip flint with it, but I'm not like you old guys yet I can still bend down to pick stuff up, I also think it might be good for killing bears or rabbid dogs. Nice sticks larson. :icon_thumleft:

That looks like it would do a fine job of frog Gigging!

Thanks for sharing your hunting sticks. I’ve been using a rubber tip walking stick but the flipping function is missing. My idea is to mount a steel angle bracket at the base to flip and pry rocks.

Rich, becareful about chipping any points if you have to pry them out that hard...

I've used different types of sticks before, old hiking/ski poles work well as do broom handles. Dending on the site I just use my bottle probe. On my desert hikes I'm never without a decent machete, you can make a decent walking stick with one if needed.
