Charlie and I hit the river at low tide and walked it in a pretty heavy rain this morning. On our first pass we found nothing. On the way back things took a positive turn. First.... I saw this broken trade or CW pipe just barley protruding from a large clump of clay about a foot into the river. It was a miracle that I saw it at all. When I picked up the clump, it fell apart and all I had was the piece of pipe. I did recover the clump and checked it for the stem with negative results. You can clearly see the letters, "T.D." on the face of the pipe. Next..... and only about ten feet from the pipe, I see a piece of white quartz showing through the water about a foot out. I had actually seen it on my first pass but thought it was just a rock and passed it up. Now, from a new angle, I could see that it had been worked and when I picked it up.... it had knife written all over it. Very cool piece of white quartz and the edge is still pretty darn sharp. Speaking of knives...... if anyone has a clue as how to sage this, please give me your thoughts.

The rest are flakes, a possible fishing point and two tools that I believe are scrapers. I don't have room to post the possible scrapers here, so I may post them later. Thanks for looking and as always, I hope that you are all doing well and building your collections. Stay safe.

I would go with a blade/knife. Looks a bit too wide to be a point ( for our areas) I do have a few the same, in quartz & rhyolite..Nice find.
I am more interested in the the last pic, I have a notched axe, that's very simular to that. rounded at one end & squared at the other ( even though part of yours is broken). I knew mine was an axe straight away, although never seen an NC axe before, it was confirmed by a NC/VA expert, a friend of mine & Matts.

I will have to post a pic of my Axe, and maybe we can see them together, sure looks like it to me. Bear with me, I'll find my pic out..
Check PM hon.

Molly.

Mike your last pic is a Guilford AXE. Prolly never made hafting but, its definetly an axe..That's your first AXE right? Fantastic. I'm so thrilled for you, you deserve it !!!!

It's exactly 22 hours and 50 minutes since my last cigarette. Please don't tempt me! :-\

Nice finds Airborne80! An ax and a pipe and points. What a day. It's fun to find a variety of stuff isn't it? I just love seeing Charlie in your pictures, he's looks like he's patiently waiting while you photograph the finds. I think he looks pleased with his contribution, and is glad to be on the way home. Good dog, (and good job).

Thanks brother....... wait until you see my next post... talk about a variety of periods! I must say..... looking at yours (and the many others here) finds is a great motivator for me. Sadly, I will be off of the radar until next Saturday as I will be out of state on business. Worse than no hunting... I will be away from Charlie. That s u c k s! Stay safe!

Thank you N.G. :icon_thumleft: Yea...... Charlie is never more than a foot away from me (laying on my foot as i write this haha) and we both love to get to the river. Notice how he is always wet in the pics ;D He swims and splashes while I study the ground. I leave for the week tomorrow and that will be hard on us both. My wife says that when I am gone, he litterally cries... tears, while staying on my side of the bed. Its pretty sad but unavoidable. Grrrrrrr! i hate leaving him! But....... when I get home, it will be back to the river and I hope more cool finds. Thanks again and stay safe
