Hello Everyone.
I feel privileged to have been given the task, of writing to you all about the expedition, undertaken today, by my Mate sasnz and Me.
We revisited an area, where we are welcomed to search - And we had a blast.
Searching amongst gigantic fresh cow patties, always a pleasure.
I think all our finds were within a roughly, quarter acre area.
Unfortunately for me, sasnz suffered three musket ball hits and I got None
I am trusting sasnz to enlighten us further, when he gets his hands on his Verniers, but they do appear to be about 14 mm for the two smaller ones and from memory 17 mm for the 'first one found'
I forgave sasnz once i found these
We think that is probably a .303 shell. It is marked MH 1942 and then VII. So probably manufactured by The Military Small Arms Factory No. 3,Hendon, Australia in 1942. Any help in assisting with more definite identification is appreciated.
I found the tiny brass shell, Headmarked ICI and rimfired, most likely a .22 calibre. And then a few metres away I found what I believe to be the bullet, slightly munted. On close examination it shows both the marks from rifling and the crimp marks from the shell.
My machine appeared to fixate on Iron and brass for the day. Lead Balls were obviously off the menu. For I also found part of a 'Giant Snake Belt Buckle' otherwise known as a "..................."?
I will call it a chain hitch.
As part of his adventure today, sasnz found a bolt - I found the spanner. What are the odds they would fit?
Have a look
We really did have a great couple of hours hunting the history we know is there, somewhere.
Cheers Mike
