I was hunting in a well hunted park today when I ran into a another guy detecting. He had a Minelab CTX3030. I have to tell you it is a great detector with a tracking gps and all the goodies one could have on a detector. He still found lots of tabs and cans like all of us. He had more hits than I did but dug much more trash than I did. I found $3.05 to his 15 cents hunting in the same area. I know one can't go by that even if your hunting side by side but at 1st I felt a bit intimidated because I had my AT PRO against his CTX303 but the more coins I put in my pocket the better I felt.

This guy has been detecting for over 40 years so he knows what he is doing. It was nice to hunt with a guy that also replaced his plugs so you couldn't tell he was there.

On my walk back to my truck I was swinging in the same place he had just detected and found a quarter and a penny.

I am going to hunt with him again and maybe I can get a better comparison between the two. I feel much better about my ATP after today. I always thought it was awesome but like it even better now. I been thinking about upgrading to a better detector but I am having 2nd thoughts now...lol

I wish Garrett would come out with an ATP that had gps tracking so you could see where you been.

Anyway it was fun detecting with a nice guy that knew what he was doing.

Sounds like he was looking for gold and not clad.

its all about knowing your machine. you might get a little more depth with one of those high dollar rigs but if you don't know how to read it it does you no good.i have hunted with people with high dollar machines that didn't the time to learn it well and were frustrated because I came along behind them and found something they had missed.

Another way to look at this is maybe he was ignoring shallow targets and looking for deeper hits. I'll do this in parks near home because to dig all shallow clad would mean too many holes for my comfort level. I've even had a buddy with an atp follow and find clad that I've ignored with my explorer and brag about it.

Or another way to look at it was yes mayb he has been detecting for over 40 years but mayb hasnt had alot If time yet with the ctx as u do with ur pro. That matters alot the more u know on what ur using is gonna show in ur finds just cuz its a $2500 machine doesnt mean he is gonna get everything there If he doesnt know the machine well yet

Like said, just because it costs $2500 doesn't mean it's "better", I'd take an AT Pro or Gold, for hunting land or water/etc, over a CTX anytime around here, buy a few AT's and coils for that matter .....and still be cheaper!

and.... I have owned and used a CTX for long enough to know how to seriously run it and use all the features/etc.

AT's are fantastic machines, Iron Audio is like adding another dimension to the detector,

....although, it would be nice to have a simple display light and a more waterproof version (diving ready).

It really is about the Operator...I detect with a guy that runs an Etrac...he has detected about a year longer than i have...And yes..he usally finds more silver coins total at the end of the year.

But I always find Bigger Silver..More Gold..More Silver jewlery.

The one thing we both noticved when hunting for gold, is that it seems like the more "Simple" machines do a better job..our opinion...Only because you arent looking ant numbers...trying to see if it makes sense...whereas the ACE 250....just beeps and if its in teh gold range..you dig....it seems to go alot quicker on those sorts of targets

RC you just made my day. Judging from the different detectors you have I suspect your pretty darn proficient with all of them. I am not displeased with my ATP. I guess it's like wanting a new truck with more options. More options don't make the truck any better.

I went back to the same park today and did ok. I got $5.81. Just for kicks I went over the area the guy yesterday detected. I never got a single signal so I am confident he got everything in his path.

Your also right about buying 4 ATP's for the price of one CTX3030

You don't need a GPS on AKPro you can handle that easily with a bring along GPS. Hey small garment is cheaper lighter simpler the use and use it for hunting and fishing.

Hey, Sandman, welcome back! Hope you're feeling better.

hope the rehab gets your legs working fast. To much good stuff and history still buried out there. For now you can just advise us on how to find the stuff which is always helpful too. Good luck and get better.
