Today I went back to my family farm which has about 1900 acres to one of the largest cellar holes on it. I have been told that at this particular foundation, the British during the Revolutionary War, locked relatives of my family in the house and burnt it down. I found this item today in the cellar hole and was immediately brought over with a sense of sorrow. When I got home, I looked up the hallmark inside of the ring, which dates it to 1763 and I have reason to believe is most likely from one of my late relatives.

I'm sharing this because of the historical significance and was very apprehensive to writing this. Please be respectful in your responses. Thank you.

That is so cool, congrats

That is simply beautiful. There is something so profoundly beautiful about that simple design. Congratulations you must be elated. Hope you inherited your distant ancestors exquisite taste.

It's one thing to find a piece of history and to date it to a time period and an event, it's really special to have the piece of history linked directly to ones own family. Congrats on the great looking ring.

Nice looking piece with an old looking gem.

I to would like to see close ups, including the hallmark?

Beautiful ring and sad story. But to hold something in your hand that ties back to that time period AND your family is awesome! Congrats on the find and I am sure it will treasured by you and yours for many years to come.

yes please post some new pictures

So cool - makes you wonder if you were destined to find it! :angel7:

It's like it was just waiting for you to find, I think that you now need to find what you can, and memorialize you ancestors and your heritage. Great story and continued good luck.

Document every thing so the story can keep going for more generations. Never let the ring leave the family.

To all-----thanks for your responses, I am going back tomorrow to sift the entire cellar hole. I'll post any interesting finds for ya'll.

I'm glad you found something so close to your family, I hope you find more relating to your family. Congrats!

did you ever sift the cellar hole - you could take all the finds and put them in a display case....

I got sidetracked purchasing and renovating a house throughout last year and barely had any free time . But come the warmer weather in 2014 you can bet I'll be there every day
