HUGE PROBLEM WITH YOUR METAL DETECTOR IS IMMINENT!

Single frequency is not as subject to that kind of EMI.
Agree, solar activity was and is not an issue with me ever with a single freq VLF.
I'm convinced though lightening strikes close, within 50 or so km, hitting the ground, do cause pings with a VLF, but also light up the targets.
Id pack it in when they get within a countdown of say 10 to 15 km, hear the clap, count 1 one thousand 2 one thousand....each countdown in km is a km roughly rule of thumb. Boom, count 10, its 10 kilometres away.
I generally leave at 10, detecting or fishing. Lightening can strike ahead of a storm front and the last thing I want to do is be walking around holding a lightening conductor shaft or rod! 😕

I went out today and found a real goodie, best in several years but I got home, realized my cat was really sick and went to the vet. He has a bad mouth infection or mouth cancer. Not a good day afterall. Will get a pic and make a new post tomorrow.
Our kitties come first, I hope smokeys ok ..

Sound travels at 1,100 ft/sec. Light 186,000 miles/sec or instantaneous. So when you see lightening count to 5 for roughly each mile before the thunder, soooo the lightening is a lot closer than ya think if you follow your 1 km rule (count to 10 and it is only 2 miles away, not 10km or 6-7 miles)! fyi.

Smoke goes to the $$$$ vet tomorrow...

I told my wife I couldn't do any work around the house this weekend because of solar weather, and she bought it!

Interesting. Well for the past 3-4 weeks my CTX has been sitting in the corner since I have had a sore forearm for that period of time. So I would not know if it was chatty or not.
