hudson river shoreline m/d

I have a boat and live directly across from west point within mins. of docking anywhere near the point which is 200,000 acres and miles of river frontage 2 helicopters will be hovering in front of you 1 with a .50 bearing down and 1 with a video/binocular they dont tolerate anything now since 911. This past year we were pulling my sidescan near the point and were confronted by 2 helicopters from west point and 1 heli from the coast guard a 4 hour detention too. There is plenty of revolutionary sites on the eastern shore to detect turning up buttons coins artifacts I always come home with some important find from here. Anyone want to hunt no prob. Send a message I have several sites that look at West Point directly so this was a vantage point during the war for both Brit and American forces. Also there is sites along the river everywhere you just got to dig trash from high water garbage but indian artifacts are on every bit of shoreline here.

thanks for the heads up.

This is my very question I seek ... maybe "Submerged" may be able to answer this , I presume you may be refering to the banks close to Fishkill ? is it the same for newburgh and other areas up and down river along the hudson that they are city property ? , and if they have no ordinances or laws preventing Metal detecting , and it is not private property you can just hunt the banks of the Hudson without any permits like most public beaches ?

Thank you for helping us newbies out

The way I always understood it was that if a property isn't marked PROPERLY (private, or no trespassing with visible contact info to get permission), legally, nobody can stop you until you are told "No". I wouldn't suggest trying this though, just because if a property isn't marked doesn't mean Jethro "ain't gonna shoot", and just because you aren't legally trespassing it still can have a negative effect on how MDers are viewed. Now rivers and streams are a whole different ball game. The way I understood them was ANYONE is allowed so many feet to any side of a navigable stream or river unless one entity owned the ENTIRE property on either side of the stream or river from head to mouth. This means the hudson is ok as long as you hit an access point and walk up and down the banks. I would really suggest not doing this, unless you really know what you are doing. If you're not paying attention the tide could come in and you might be stranded on a high point for hours, or even worse soaking wet with a wet detector.

I live in Fishkill also, I havent started my m/d hobby yet, but the ground is thawing!

Personally if I was going to hunt the shore of the hudson, I'd use a canoe with wadders to get in and out of my location.

well...its really big river. I would shy away from wading or taking a canoe. I would take a motorized boat to get to your spot, and even then I have heard of the current getting pretty hairy. I heard about a guy a few years ago getting caught in a current tipping his boat and he drown. Be careful in that river. It's fairly dangerous.

I've already canoed the whole river when i was 19. It's not dangerous along the shoreline. Just gotta watch the wakes frrom larger boats.
