How to find property owner?

Courthouse/public records.
Be very careful though. Even if you discover the owner, they may or may not be receptive to metal detecting. They may or may not also feel violated.
IMHO, there's way to much public info available.
Just my thoughts.

I'd start at the county auditor website. In many counties the County Auditor website have a map "google like" that you can use by moving around and enlarging the area you are inquiring about. Some even let you get satellite views from back in the 1990's. You can select the lot and see who owns the property and the address where the tax bills are sent.

Good Luck

Here in VA there is a website called VA Mass appraisal were you can pull up the street and it will show address and property owners

That's where you have an advantage over us Jeff as this information is available to us only through a law office, real estate agent, or if we go to the local municipal office and request the information.

Almost any realtor (worth their weight) has platbooks, it helps if they're current. Don't trespass in western TN - you will get shot or at least shot at.

lol. I'm originally from Eastern TN, and I can say the same as well. Be sure to check gun laws before you wonder out into woods not knowing whose property it is.

Now I live in VA, and, as for VA Mass Appraisal website, it's extremely limited in the counties it offers, unfortunately. None of those, even the subscription based, deal with where I live on the cusp of Alexandria/Arlington/Fairfax/Prince William (NOVA).
