How to dig a privy that is still standing?

:o No.....I was NOT aware of the three seaters! Would have made my daughter Teresa happy though...when she was little she always made me stand outside the door and reach in and hold her hand so she would not fall in.....once she offered to hold my hand and I told her no, I was going to close the door and assured her I would not fall in....we were at a car race and I was NOT leaving the door unlatched.....anyway she found this very disturbing at first then started laughing and said "oh!! you will not fall in....your butt is too big!" >:( >:( She is 18 years old now and STILL laughs hysterically when anyone mentions an outhouse!

I've been told that that's the reason for multiple seats; the holes were different sizes, for different sized.....users!

I've seen different size holes and even lower seats for the kids. Guess those dads loved their little ones alot, didn't want them falling in!! LOL

rofl I can't wait to show this thread to Teresa the next time she comes to visit....She is gonna get a kick out of it. I am not sure where she got the ornery streak, certainly not from her mother! I am VERY sweet natured and never ever ornery! ~attempts to look innocent~

What an education I get here....never dreamed there were three seat outhouses and here I even find out the uses for them! lol Too much fun! :D

Just in case have a good first aid kit close by. Clothes pins, lots of clothes pins! M ;) nty

Kiros, this thread went right in the crapper didnt it!

While we are on the subject, my wife's gggrandmother(a heavy woman) fell thru the floor of their outhouse in the Pocono's and went feet first into the fresh manure. They say it took 2 mules to pull her out and she wasnt fit to be around for quite a while.

Sorry Kiros, good luck.

Well, I guess I should thank everyone for the info and a nice laugh :D

I haven't had the oppprtunity to dig the privy yet, but when I do, I will be sure to update you guys on what I find.

lol seems to me we should thank YOU for starting the thread that got us laughin! ;) Looking forward to seeing a post telling how the dig went too! :D

Please do keep us updated. It should be easy digging!!! Don't forget to use a sifting screen on the dirt from the privy.

Sorry I'm late on this....I call this picture "Two Dogs at Four Holer". :D

The good thing about 4-holers: there is always a seat available! Mona, I love that photo. We could create a calender for next year - each month would have a different photo of an outhouse (privy) and we could have little stories to accompany the photos. We'd call it "Holey Ground" or something like that. ;D

I will be sure to take a pic of said privy for the calendar.
