Just a differnce in mind set I think. Hang around for long enough and it will become evident that noone's words are simply taken without evidence to back it up (even the experts). Those of us who come here for the "game" of solving what's-it's for others do so to gain and share knowledge, so I understood Diggemup immediately, as I wanted to know the same thing. We question each other constantly, with no shortage of humor mixed in.
My response would likely have "Doh, I'm sorry, Diggemup, geez, duh, I didn't understand your question" rather than relying on 1980's high school taunts. I've found it works better for me, but as always I may be wrong.
That being said, Brad, are the handles on the knife screwed on by any chance? (as opposed to the much more common brass riveted on) It's hard to tell in the picture (which is understandably not zoomed in on them) but if they are screws rather than rivets, it was likely manufactured by Miller Bros., who was one of the supplier to King Hardware. If this were the case, they were in business from 1872-1926.
