knights helm w/ griffon on top of sheild --- on sheild -- sword on left (not a upside down cross) and another symbol on right * (not sure of it) -- it looks kinda -- coat of arms ish ---a popular "general old time button" theme

looks to be a 2 piece type button--- copper front with the edge folded over a iron backing and shank--(the iron most likely rusted away over time --just leaving the front part behind) althought the pried edge might have popped the cover off the backing.

All of which adds up to another modern (ish) blazer button :icon_thumright:

modern by british standards -- which means less than 200 years old -- ;D-- mid 1800 era possible ( 1860) as a mid range --say 1830 to 1890 time range most likely

ah got ya --post 1900 so only maybe 100 years old -- modern --very modern by british standards.

humm I thought iron backings went farther back than that , at least civil war era I thought.

I agree a civilian blazer shield button. Possibly a match with this fashion button made by Waterbury. No way of dating other than what was already said about steel back buttons.

big cy ---I would say thats a dead on match -- waterbury knight sheild "blazer" button --it tis on my veiw now that you shown the "matching one"
