I've been digging on this one and am still a bit stumped, but what I have narrowed down is that it appears not to be from the 40's-50's. I found several examples from this time frame, and a noticable difference is if you look to the bottom left of the slide you can see 2 1/2 "ropes". Slides from the 40's-50's had 4 complete "ropes". You may want to try this guy, he is listed as a neckerchief slide collector:

I had one like it that I wore with my scout uniform back in the mid to late 50's. I think you can still buy that same type today. Where you found it and under what circumsances may help determine how old it really is.
