Sent my machine in for repairs for repairs last week, so this is not a new find, but it's been bugging me for years. The worst part is, I chopped it with my shovel :BangHead: Anyways check it out and see what you think! syringe 003.jpgsyringe 001.jpgsyringe 002.jpg

Doesn't look like anything I used giving shots to cows and horses, so I'd say it goes back before 50 years ago. That said, I don't remember a thing about shot's I got from MD's, but that looks more like a veterinary syringe that an MD one to me.

Hello mr. b,

Are there any markings on the remaining glass tube? What are the dimensions, and the size of the needle/nozzle aperture?

Here's a similar looking model:

syringe_hypodermic_set_c._1880._1.jpg

"A good quality c. 1880 antique hypodermic syringe set that includes two needles. Such sets were typically used for cocaine and morphine injection. This very set was featured in an episode of the TV program CSI that first aired on 6 January 2005. The storyline centered around the murder of a Sherlock Holmes impersonator. Holmes injected himself with a 7 per cent solution of cocaine, which the great detective found ...so transcendently stimulating and clarifying to the mind..." I don't think the tube is glass, is it?

I had one years ago that dated to the 1880s that was solid brass.

There is the # 5 in the glass at the end where the needle threaded on and some lines after. The end where the needle threaded on measures around .152 diameter of the tube measures .358 The tube is 2 1/2 " long The whole piece measures 3". The site I found it at produced colonial and civil war relics, Along with items up t'ill the '40s. I was told that site was a hog pen at one time and that there was a slaughter house near by.The site was littered with knives, forks and spoons all marked with USN or USMC. I think they were hauling off trash from the mess hall at Cherry Point to slop the hogs! Anyways it was alot of fun digging through that to get to the good stuff.

My dad found one that looked a LOT like yours on a civil war battlefield . . . that guarantees nothing . . . but it may SUGGEST something!
