How much should I start CRH dimes with?

ArkieBassMan, thanks for your insight. Sounds like you are roll hunting veteran. I will tread lightly and don't plan on picking up thousands of dollars worth of coins each month. I can see how banks would shy away from wanting to constantly take back coins in large quantity. I will do this only periodically to have fun with the kids primarily. I am realistic and know I won't get rich from it. I'm treating this as a no cost or low cost hobby...but who knows what I'll find right?

If you and/or the kids enjoy it, and you aren't spending any money thats needed for other things, then the cost is irrelevent IMO. And not knowing what you'll find is a big part of the fun!

I didn't mean to scare you if I did. There is sometimes a very fine line between "treading lightly" and searching enough volume to make it worthwhile. While I don't want to do so much volume that my buy or dump banks cut me off, I also want to do enough volume to at least make the potential finds worth my time and trouble. Even though I really enjoy searching rolls, I wouldn't drive back and forth to banks for only 10 rolls at a time. In that situation, I most likely could just take the money I'd spend in gas and just buy at least 5 times the amount of silver outright than I'd find searching. The problem is that every branch of every bank can be different in regards to what they'll do or won't do for you. In the 2 dump bank examples I gave you above, one cut me off for doing only half the volume they had previously cleared me to do. My other dump bank has told me on multiple occasions that I can bring in as much as I want as often as I want and it will be no problem...and 3+ years later and counting, it hasn't...but I haven't REALLY pressed them on it either. I live in a very rural area with limited banks. Losing that particular dump bank essentially would put me out of business.

No bank has a sign that reads, "Attention CRHers...you can buy or dump up to 'X' amount of coins before we cut you off or initiate fees." You kinda just gotta get in there and see what happens. Politeness and common sense will generally take you a long way in this hobby.

I just did $50 in cents to get started. Should be fun tonight. Let the wheat hunting start.

I recommend a bank that has the dimes in clear wrappers, makes it way faster and easy to dump if you dont have a coin counter in your area..Simply only open the plastic rolls that you suspect have a silver dime..Just edge check, super easy!

I don't like the glare/shine of the plastic rolls- to each his own I guess

Well I'm only thru about $15 and I have 2 wheaties, several Canadian, and a Bahama penny.

Well I had a good time last night with the cents. We only went thriugh one box and ended up with fout wheaties. The look on my kids faces when they found two of them was awesome. Like winning the lottery! They are '46, '47, '55, '58.

$1500 at the very least, if you are serious. If you go the clear-wrapper-route, make sure you get a strong magnet, because sometime you might get a steel/nickel Canadian
