How many pack a handgun when detecting?

Mr Lee I've come face to face with a mountain lion and was only armed because I was quail hunting. He turned and left and I so did I. I see bear scat all the time. You must remember they are mostly nocturnal and really don't want to deal with us as we are not on the normal menu. When I do take notice is when I see pair of bear track and one is a cub and they are going the same direction as I am.

I do. But here in AZ I also wear it openly to the Grocery store, where a food fight may injure me! (they may start throwing CANS at me!) TTC

I carry a 5 inch bowie knife, and my shovel?

i exercise my constitutional right to bear arms at every opportunity. need i say more?

I knew I had this wrong. I thought it was the right to keep and arm bears. That explains the strange looks from the neighbors

I suppose if we converted our detectors shaft into a bang stick we would have to worry about forgetting it at home. Nothing like the element of surprise. :D

I don't know what state you live in but I here in Nevada I carry all the time even when I'm not detecting. I always carry my .44 mag or my .357 mag when I detect and last year I'm glad I did. Was detecting an old town site in the hills and had a run in with a really pissed off black bear that was not happy that I was on his turf. one warning shot near the bears feet and he took of like a bat out of hell. So yes I do carry and Its a good Idea depending what part of the country you live in.

I always Carry, There are too many Gang Bangers running around trying to make there bones or a fast 300-500 bucks on a good metal detector, They can have mine when they pry it outta my cold dead hands. As said before It's better to have and not need than to need and not have...JMHO

Apparently there is a crazy guy at the top of a mountain near a gold mine where I live & he shoots at people with a bow & arrow, and throws rocks off the mountain if people try to come up.

Could be a story though. lol

For those who don't like guns or are not allowed to have them, perhaps a large pet animal could help?
Do not limit your thinking to standard pets, although some permits may be required for Lions and such.
Most places, even indoors, have a sign that says some animals are allowed.
With the new politically correct words it opens up some new areas.

I would carry in schools or colleges if it were legal in Florida. Banning responsibly armed and licences citizens from carry at schools or anywhere for that matter, gives violent criminals a free fire zone.

Every state varies but some good coin shooting locations are off limits to firearms. Its interesting how laws based on good intentions never reduce crime.

I've never metal detected in an area infested with wild hogs (although I have hunted them in Texas) or wild dogs (really??) so I can't speak to that directly. But I can say that a few of these posts make this lifetime NRA member a little.. uneasy..
Theo Roosevelt: Speak softly and carry a big stick. Well times are a changing and the big stick just is not enough any more. I carry when in gold country and have for years on certain occasions I carry locally due to the fact anymore you just do not know what you will encounter, hogs, dogs, whatever else may come my way. NRA
and a gun dealer. The meak have never inherited the earth and socialism is not the way to run. Hardrock
