My rough guess estimate may be way off. After a little research my new estimate range is $500 +/- $50.

Bring it on, Daddy wants a new Morgan!

Some of you that have very large guesses, you do realize that if you guess $500.00 you are saying there is 50 Thousand pennies in there (or 1000 rolls or 20 boxes or 10 mint bags). I know looks can be deceiving but that's alot of copper. If there are truly that many, your eyes are better than mine :o


btw.... can you send me the jar when you're done with the contest?????

I still think $500 is close. Here's why? A penny is .750" (3/4") in diameter. It is .061" thick. I can estimate the coins are 8 to 9 pennies deep by looking at the pictures of the coins showing the full diameters on the edge of the container. So if you do the math you can have (8 or 9) times (.750 / .061 = 12.295), I round down to 10 or 11, as they wont lie perfectly flat. This gives 80 to 99 layers of coins. Then look at the picture looking down into the container. I see about $7 -8. So (7 to 8) times (80 to 99) is actually $560 to $792. Also people tend to underestimate coin count by a lot. Do you still think $500 is to much?
