Wanted to see how I would do on a 40 hour work week of detecting. Some days I got in 2 hours and others I got in 5 1/2 hours. I drove for 523 miles and I spent like $103 in gas. I did not count my driving time as I do not count my driving when going to work.
Here is my clad and gold finds.

Dollar coins 2 $ 2.00
Quarters 69 $17.25
Dimes 108 $10.80
Nickels 78 $ 3.80
Wheaties 6 $ .06
copper cents 87 $ .87
zinc cents 184 $1.84
---------
total clad $36.62

My gold was 14K for a total of 19.7 grams of gold. So I guess I didn't do to bad but still not good enough to make a living at it. But at least I know I had a good time doing what I enjoy. So guys stay safe and enjoy your time out detecting......Matt

So roughly $700 minus the $100 for gas = $600 divided by 40 = $15 an hour. Not bad if you were unemployed with no job prospects. Better then working under the Golden Arches.

Nice going! :icon_thumleft:

What kind of sites did you hunt mostly?

Since it has been hot and the ground is hard as a brick. I hunted mostly in the sand, water and tot lots.. I did get out to the woods one time.......Matt

That's under the table money, I'm not sure what tax bracket that rate would equal, but it might be pushing $20/hr taxed equivalent. That'd be nearly $40,000 per year, better than many jobs. Plus, I bet you had fun doing it!

T-Net only has good Americans that would always pay their taxes but if they did not then the rough numbers would equal around $36,000 a year with no benefits. So you would have to either have no health care or pay outrages prices. This is also assuming no days off/vacations although who would mind that if you are just detecting each day. Depending on where you live you may not be able to detect year round. Wow...this is sounding more and more like a commission based job.

I based my calculations on a person married filing jointly. Tax rate taken from Smart Money's effective tax rate calculator which figured an effective tax rate of 12.64% which is after standard deductions and the such. I round up to 13%.

$36,000 X .87 = $31,320 / 52 = $602.30 a week. (close enough to $600 for government work)
