How everyone's Memorial Day weekend gold Coming Along??

So I didn't go out the last few days as I gimped my toe up..But today my Brother and I went out though I was a slow walker..But the Gold was great..Really couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to do so I ended up throwing in the sluice and cracking/panning...Kinda of an odd day as I never really committed to any one kind of digging but the day's total was awesome..My brother and his hobbit feet did well too.

So how is everyone else's prospecting goning this weekend??

Crappy day on the middle fork. Slipped twice busted my knee and rolled an ankle, almost lost base camp to rising water(gone way too long before coming back, and set way too low, ******* move). And really nothing worth the effort.
Its damn hard to find the good cracks. And they weren't there today. However the water is VERY low and I'm loving it. Will b camping there soon

Sorry to hear Dan, at least your still with us it could have been worse I guess.

Yeah don't forget about that water level.. I did last time.. Especially when you cross to the other side... Your path to get back may disappear...

Yeah sorry bout your truck AV, and Dusted sorry you broke down too. Lots of bumps bruises and breakdowns in this thread.

Oh I wish I was working ground like that instead of sitting here on the couch. We are going out again next weekend and we know right where to dig. I'm going to triple what we took last time.

Sometimes I really wish I lived near a beautiful river like that up north. I'm in SoCal. I can only
Imagine what it would be like to be able to enjoy that anytime. Hoping to get up to downieville N Yuba this sept. wow I miss wet mining.

Just finished a light 1/2 hour sprinkle here, suns coming out now. Hoser John, why was it a curious weekend? I as well as many others will Truly Enjoy being along side of a nice low river, hopefully later this year!.........................63bkpkr

Just got back from 4 days at Mineral Bar. Camped out, swam, went for walks with my 4 year old niece - had a blast. A lot of prospectors there at the campgrounds. No one confessing to finding any gold.

I did poorly until Sat night - finally found a nice hunk of bedrock downriver from the bridge that was showing color after clearing the overburden. So I went back early the next morning and spent the day there. I am really happy with my cons and will clean them out this week at home.

Oh, and the mosquitoes chewed us up - lol.

Fullpan I almost always get the moss as it happens to be a good indicator on the gold content around the the area..It seems allot of Memorial Day Adventure with mixed results..But at the very least I hope good or bad they were spent with people you enjoy and memories were made... My digsite has seemed to improve and I intended to go out today but the rain makes the walking slippery..And though tomorrow won't be much better we will be out early...Yesterday was a great day as I set up the sluice and ran buckets all day..I peeled back ground level and moved up about 8 feet and cleaned up that smaller ledge and about 8 feet above that is another ledge and I just began working the material up there..Tomorrow I will bring the camera and try to give you an Idea of my working..This is one of the funnest places..Well the dirt is not really fun(except for the gold)but just beining up on the ledge's with bucket's of dirt>> Well it is hard to explain but I love it..I suspect I got 2 more days of digging and 1 day of cleaning up and sweeping but that depends on the rains..It has been a good spot..

Sidvail I was withen 6 miles of ya...The campgrounds...It has been a week or so since I have been at the Iowa hill Bridge. But My current dig site is withen veiw of Charlies camp..(He keeps an eye on my tools and feeds me from time to time) He lives on the river..Has for sometime..But he often makes trips thru Iowa Hill to town..He been saying that he hasn't heard of any really productive working around Mineral Bar this year.. Forest Hill side downriver passed the landslide there is decent bedrock that I have pulled decent pickers out of..Down river Colfax side I never had anything to bother with unless you mange to get around that mountain and then you will have half a mile of decent ground..Upriver Forest hillside..Past the trail the walking can be sketchy and how far you go will be dictated on waterline or if your willing to get wet..But I have done well Crevicing that section..Upriver Colfax side to Pennyweight I have never even put a Pan to water..No real reason just haven't got around to it..

MM, if I'd have known you were so close, I would have tried to hike up and say hello. Friday I tried upriver on Foresthill side, but there were so many diggers and I was showing so little color, I just called it around 4pm. Went swimming. Saturday I hunted around a bit and tried some crevices. I finally found color downriver on Forresthill side. Found an area with bushes and gravel over sloped bedrock about 12 to 15 inches deep. Dug back and ran about 10 hours of dirt through my bazooka. Brought it all home to clean up. Crossing my fingers.

Found a couple of those rock rooms (foundations?) along that trail. Pretty cool. Also about 30 feet up the side of the hill there I found a tree that had been undercut drastically by digging. Hole was like 5 feet deep underneath. All dirt and cobbles. Is that part of the old river bed? High bench? Or just old tailings? I didn't try any of the dirt, but will the next time I'm up there.

Sidvail, I was at mineral bar today. Hiked upstream down pennyweight until the gravel bar and crossed the river to the bedrock on the other side. Spent all day crevicing and didn't bring much home-- not even a picker!

Creviced Friday at Ponderosa and did a little better. Sluiced Saturday at Ponderosa for about 4 hours and found some decent gold and pickers.

Good luck on the cons!

I haven't done ponderosa since last year. I need to revisit. I understand sluicing is the way to go there. Just pick a spot on the gravel bar and start digging?

all flood gold--layered pretty evenly throughout. It's all about running as much material as you can, from a good spot after some test pans. I always go downstream, but I talked to a guy who was working the small bar just upstream with good results, so he said.
