Many of us have seen trees with markings. intricate carvings and animals in the bark. Usually there are Beech trees and they grow slow. but if these marks were put there 150 years ago and the tree was big enough to carve on it would have already been 50+ years old. These trees have not changed much or not at alll How did they stop the tree from aging. I have talked to surveyors who say that witness trees don't change much even over 30-50 years. Does anyone know how to stop a tree from growing and why we can still read the marks after 150+ years? Those who study tree signs KGC etc may have an answer.j Thanks
