Hi All , Been long hot summer and the local snakes have been quite active this year, While hunting my-self i have run into a few deadly snakes but only the species that would rather get away from you .All the same if you to stand or corner them the story would change. East brown snake number 2 on the list of deadly snakes. Has the ability to launch to increase its strike range .[ 7 feet] Grows to about 7 foot. Common

The deadly snake i going to tell you about today is a Black Tiger Snake , one nasty bad tempered creature. very aggressive and very territorial 2 species Barred and Black . This has no fear of humans . It is known to swim across creeks to challenge any thing that invades its territory. Biggest killer of pet dogs . For those who think a man's hand or gun is quicker will be very sorry if you miss.

Any way the other week a Mder i know called Frankie was working the banks of the local river late in the afternoon on a hot day. Running his GPX with a semi Mono 7x12 inch coil under the "China Scrub" along the banks. When suddenly he pulled his coil from under the scrub and got the shock of his life. hanging off his coil was a 5 foot Black Tiger Snake which had got its fangs caught in the coil. because the ground was hot and the sun was still blazing the skid plate and the plastic top of the coil has softened up in the heat . Seems the snake went for the strike and got hooked by its own fangs on the coil. Frankie swung the Gpx towards the river and the snake let go and went flying into the bottom of the creek. The drop from the bank was to the little water in the bottom was about 10 feet, which gave Frank enough time to retreat a good distance away just in case the snake decide to come back. Luckie Frankie because if the that coil had not been soft that snake would have hit 3 or four times in the leg. That's real bad . No only is the snake deadly ,one has to get medical attention as soon as possible . Being in the bush you have to move and thats the last thing to do if you get bitten. Help would be some time away. Yes we do all have ankle high boots on which helps but you never know. Thank god for plastic coils

Wow. We have no deadly or venomous snakes in my part of Minnesota (too cold) which is a really, really good thing. Don't know if you could get me out hunting otherwise. Stay safe.

yes the same up here in the upper peninsula to cold only copper bellies and gardeners "since nothing was created"
"Dar-wens theory" shows that piousness snake will soon be growing fur coats to coop with the cold and will be out in full force in the winter all over the world
so you better watch out

Hi sue Thanks for the reply, Few basic rules, keep your place cleaned up , slash the grass and have a rodent control programme . Generally the snakes don,t like the vibration from loud noise so they are more likely to want to leave. keep out of area with heavy undergrowth between early spring until early Aut .They are protected by law not because they are endangered just to stop those who are reckless.

Hi , i believe some Americans like to keep species from other countries as pets. You could buy these from some illegal blackmarket source and what would happen if they escaped in the temperate area of USA . No natural enemies and free domain . Not a good thought.

we have cooper heads and rattle snakes here in West Virginia

Hi , the snakes like to warm up in the morning sun and plenty become road kills , the local farmers hang them on the fences to warn people that they are about . keeps the crows and ravens away from the seed crops by giving a free meal and keeps the unwanted persons out their fields. :icon_thumleft: Dead snake in a hot sun smells really bad tinpan

Last spring I was on a high desert hunt here in western u.s..We were working an old footing from a mining camp when I heard that nasty rattle sound.I froze, looked down and realized I was standing on a baby sidewinder I never saw.I was lucky, its head was pinned under my shoe.Little sucker was only bout 8 inches long, but big enough. My huntin buddy pinned the tail down with his coil and I jumped back.It didnt seem to be injured(good)and took off when he let it up.
my closest call and has slowed me down in the field.Btw....we found some cool stuff that day but still talk bout that little snake.

tinpan, that was an enjoyable story, backed with some solid advice. But then again with me, unlike most, I never worry about any type of snake.

This is the fact

Snakes avoid me out of pure respect :occasion14: :tongue3:

aye a really nice story. where i have always dreamt of going " down under " i honestly do not think i would,, every damn thing down there can kill ya it seems . and 3/4 of the ones that can kill you actualy want to and will try.
i one of the Yanks that do not fear snakes ,,, but i do respect them and do not want to collect or play with them and usually if the snake is moving away from me or my loved ones we part on good terms.
2 times in my life i have come with in a hair of being bit by a venimous snake becasue of my own stupidity and for some reason it did not bite me and once i noticed it was not the snake i thought but a bad one i was able to toss it or step back from it.
