Any ideas? Piece is curved (upward in photo). Part of a bridle?

I collect antique horse bits, bridles, and saddles. I think this is a piece off a harness worn by horses that pulled artillery. I can't remember exactly but I've seen it before. I'll do a little research and see if I can figure out exactly what this piece goes to. I do know there's a buckle tongue missing from the center bar on the flat end.

I have not seen that one yet, looks interesting.

A piece like that I'd clean up and keep.

All I get is iron rings.

Thanks, Mississippi Girl. I've found ox shoes in close proximity along with a lot of square nails and square spikes. It's also where the sword I posted came from. I was stationed at Columbus AFB in the early 70s. Boy, do I wish I was into MDing then!
