Hi everyone was wondering if you guys ever used a hookah unit that was battery powered? Do you like it? The pros and cons to this unit and how does it compare to the gas powered unit? I would like to hear your input if you own a battery powered hookah unit and how you like it. Also, if it is worth investing or not? Thanks all for your input on this subject. Aloha ;D

or take a look here -

i was just about to by electric model from air line jim, but then i talked to two guys out michigan way and they use the same airline model, but use the gas model - powdered by honda - nice unit

my choick now for sure

I have used all three, 110 Volt AC, 12 volt DC and gasoline. The gas units put out more air for more divers at greater depths or divers working hard underwater. The electrics I've used were more for doing chores in boat yard and while moored to clean the bottom. Generally you aren't deep enough to need dive tables, but it is something to learn about.

Gas is noisy, makes fumes that can get sucked into the inlet tube. This is not good for your body! :o

Electric is quiet but won't pump as much air. An it runs longer if you are using 110 volt. Battery usage is nearly the same, but you have to carry the battery back an forth for charging while you just refill the tank with gas.

I've used the Brownie and Airline. I can highly recomment the Airline. Keene also makes one with the Honda engine that is good.

I was told that with the silent electric you can sneak around moored boats to steal expensive Props. But you still have bubbles to give ya away.

...............So that is what a hookah is................==Jim==

Just buy a gast 12 volt oil less air compressor.100psi.you can buy them on ebay for around $100.the gast compressor can be found in RV's or ambulances, they are used for the air ride suspension.Try your local junk or scrap yard first.

I just recently got a powersnorkle from hawaii. It was actually made in New Zealand with a sales rep in Hawaii, I think. I still have alot of gear to get yet. I want the air supply to branch off and supply a buoyancy compensator. I want to use it in the springs and at the beach. I asked my favourite privately owned springs if I could use it there and was told no. At least I asked, I like the place and didn't want to be thrown out. They had one of their people follow me around their acres of park to make sure I didn't use it and I told him he didn't need to do that. He then told me that ONE time ONE guy came here with an air compressor hooked to a CAR battery. lol That's the way he emphasized it and I made no comment. He then told me I could enter the water downstream at the bridge. I may do that this summer. I don't want to try it out while the river current tries to take the floating car battery and my teeth downstream. When I soon get the rest of the equipment I need, I'll pay a scuba instructor to recertify me for scuba and give me all the advice he can for a beach he's familiar with diving. I've only snorkled the beach on the gulf and I believe I'll try that before the springs.

I used a hookha that was part of a 3 inch gold dredge. Later, when I sold the dredge, I mounted the compressor and a 3 hp B&S motor to a donut ring from Kenne Engineering and used a 20 inch truck tire for flotation. I've dove down 15 feet and hunted for 45 minutes on a quart of gas. To prevent breathing exhaust fumes, I added a 3 foot snorkle to the compressor air intake. The gas unuit is the best if you are a serious TH'er. A battery will run down and your hunting is over. I ran my hookha with a air bottle that held about a minute of air. You'll know when the gas motor stops as the air flow decreases and it starts to get hard to breath so you head up. If the water is clear enough to see your watch then you'll know that after 40 minutes, its time to head to the surface.
I have my hookha unit for sale in the Classifieds here. Motor still runs and compressor still pumps but I usually just hunt in shoulder deep water for now.

Harry ;)
