I took an old rubber rug and began cutting it down to size for a sluice mat. I used a carpenters knife, dremel tool, and wood burning tool to shape and smooth the grooves. I chose to do this because I wanted to be able to design the riffles just how I wanted. I was a very tedious process, however. I also took some inspiration from Keene's new "super rubber riffle" mat. I threw in some deep V style riffles as well. What I made is 10" x 6.5" sluice insert. I am simply interested different sorts of modifications to better catch the fine gold of Colorado.
questions, comments, and suggestions welcome.
*also, would any recommend brushing on some sort of finish to make it more smooth and plug any super tiny crevices where gold might get stuck and not come out? If so, what should I use?
