Came across a homeless guy today, disabled and has nothing but clothes on his back. Had a sign up asking for food. The guy is walking on a public road and the police see him and work the guy over telling him to leave and that he's disturbing people with his sign
the guy stands his ground and says he's doing nothing wrong, which he wasn't but then the cop comes up with the most inane charge. He says he siting the guy for trespass. The guy argues saying how can I trespass on a public road, cop said to leave or he would take him in for the trespass and disobeying an officers commands. The homeless man capitulated and left. We followed the guy, gave him some cash, bought him a Wawa gift card, a sub, Gatorade and because we had spoken about a shelter provided by our church and he said he lost his bible at the last shelter we bought him a new one which the Christian Shoppe embossed his name on it for him and gave us a 25% discount on it to help out. People are people no matter their circumstance and to come up with a bogus charge of trespassing on a public road just shows the lack of compassion.. God takes care of his children. I'm glad we were given the chance to help someone.

God Bless you for a compassion Heart,,HH:thumbsup:

AWESOME on this :notworthy:

Naturally if they had written him up for Trespassing, it probably wouldn't have stuck unless the Justice of the Peace was crooked, & was probably a Bluff anyway.
as he would have never paid it.
But it's good to see someone at least helped him with a Meal.

Many communities once had vagrancy ordinances where a person had to have a certain amount of money, usually $50, or they would be escorted out of town. Back then $50 was more than most people ever carried. These were later judged unconstitutional but the rule was around for years.
There were times in my early days on the road where I wouldn't have passed the test. Maybe I'd better check my wallet now.

I'm not sure on the $50, as you said Back then $50 was a fortune.

I thought you just had to produce Cash of any amount, But I never researched it.

If you think about it, considering handouts,
Most Homeless probably have More then $50 on them at all times,
Unless they are Winos or Crack addicts.

and I would be a vagrant almost 365 days a year.

Unless cops carry Debit card readers :laughing7:

I had the Prescott police issue me a order not to trespass in the parking lot behind the book store I worked in...
just wrote me up...anything I said, "you don't understand English boy?" shut up...
as I was driving off, my employer showed up...."what's going on here?"
well...I drove off...everybody an their mom begins to call me an apologize...
couldn't sit an eat my lunch with a book for a year...so I moved to flagstaff...she lost a good employee...Prescott is safe from people like me.

I would have to disagree. I don't even carry $50 on me all the time, unless it's the weekend and i'm at garage sales. Last week I carried a single dollar in my pocket all week.

BTW- Most of the homeless (around here anyway) are drug addicts and/or alcoholics.

bzbadger,
Good job !!
Reminds me of this: "I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet". Some others will always be in worse shape then either of us.
Unfortunately, today, it's rare, yet quite refreshing, that someone like yourself stops to offer a lending hand. You made my day.
Don.......

I plan on going back to find him and take time to sit down and have a little bible study with him. I dare the troopers to come up and say anything to me just how foolish will they feel when I pull my badge out and ask them why im being asked anything by them. One thing I can't stand is a cop that abuses their power, makes us all look bad. Around here its the state troopers who act like demigods and I've reported many of them to their watch commanders. My main goal is to make sure this guy gets the help he needs and im worried for his well being along with the others. With Gods help I hope we can do something for them before it gets cold.

Will you still help him if he declines to participate in your bible study?

Yes Believe me , I see a Bible thumper heading towards me,
I'd run for the Hills till you disappear :laughing7: of course that may work better then a fine to get rid of me :laughing9:

LOL @ Jeff! I'm usually preaching to the Bible thumpers! LOL!
Many know very little of what the J guy actually meant, and my husband said he's never seen anyone able to scatter a group of JW's,
the way I can! LOL! I do have problems with organized religion and holy hippocrit's. LOL!

bzbadger, good for you! How does one "tell" someone of brotherly love, and not "show" it or "live" it?
There is right and not right! Thank you for standing up to injustices! Doesn't matter who perpetrates the injustice, it's still not right!
We used to have a very effective program in SW Ga for reducing crime and recidivism. It actually worked so well, they squashed it cause the jail and sheriffs office was loosing money, by ppl NOT committing crimes! :dontknow: (they were losing federal fundings or something like that, that was back in the 70's)
It's still an effective program, but like the Aramaic language, almost dead and barely found anywhere today. :sad10:

Many places have laws against panhandling, which are chargeable under trespass statutes after a warning. It all depends on the local laws.

If you feel that much compassion, open your door to him. Offer a hot meal and a warm bed. Won't you be rewarded ten times over?

GIB, though you may or may not have been referring to my posts(doesn't really matter), I have opened my doors to those in need, fed strangers, and shown care and compassion to those less fortunate, with no strings attached or expectations. I have also been the recipient of great compassion from others, in times of need. It kinda works as a two way street.

It may surprise many, but SOME, are capable of that!
I like to think that this world is not totally full of narcissist, yet!

Just be very careful, there are so many con artists and perverts out there running around - Women need to be very aware.

Well guys I'll try to answer on order. Would I still help him if he refused to sit down for bible study..of course I would however this guy told us he lost his bible as he was told to leave the area.the cops wouldn't allow him to grab his pack so we actually went to a local shop and bought him one and he received it and held it close and I could see it meant a lot to him. Now the question of would I offer him a place to sleep and food...yes I would however at the present time I've already opened my home up to a family of 4 who's house flooded by a clothes washer hose breaking and ruined their house. They have been staying with is for 3+months now. We supply everything and I have even taken both the boys aged 8 & 13 metal detecting and bought them a couple bounty hunter quick draw2s. They love detecting. Its not all unicorns and rainbows, the father who is a recovering addict stole 2 full bottles of pain pills from my bedroom cabinet and instead of beating sense into him(7 years martial arts training, police combat training, 6'1 & 270 lbs) which I could have easily done o chose to forgive him and offer help which has brought a big change in his life. Another comment made about religion and holy hypocrites, I absolutely agree with you because organized religion is more about money and items and the idolizing of material possessions and that started with the Catholics when they came of power and made all pay homage to the church rather than God. Holy hypocrites basically same thing but they hide it a little better and not on as large a scale. Both teach false doctrines by putting the "church" and the ones in charge above everything when God is to be first and He will make sure how things go, we are to take care of our brothers and sisters no matter who they are, what color, how they smell if they're dirty etc. By the way I know you guys have heard the word pastor used in church or somewhere, funny thing is..pastor is used 1 time in the whole bible and a pastor was the lowest person on a church..their job was if u broke your leg and couldn't feed the flock etc they had to come over and slop the hogs, clean the poop etc but in America we celebrate that position and put them up on a pedestal...messed up ways we do things. Thanks to all for the kind words and I hope you guys find someone that needs help and your able to do so. Makes it a better place and what were supposed to do.

Well, religious or not, I hope people can appreciate what you did as a decent (and sadly all too rare) act of kindness towards a fellow human. I used to be in your line of work, and found myself surrounded with far too many power-tripping yahoos who pushed around and antagonized vulnerable people for sport simply because they could.

A bit off topic - I had surgery in Baltimore, stayed there for about a month, and have since come back to various parts of Maryland about ten times. I love it, and have run into the nicest people each and every time I've been there. It didn't surprise me to see that you were from there, too.

Much appreciated Iron Maiden. I have been trying to find the guy and not been able to and we think we found out why. Apparently the ppl going to ChikfilA found it disturbing that a homeless man was sitting on the curb asking for help?food while they sat in their cars and ordered food so they complained to the manager who then went out and begrudgingly asked the man to leave the property. Hmm a Christian organization such as Chik and they kick him off the curb. Way to make the Christians look good my brother. I will keep looking for him.
