Home & Beach, 1c & Rubbish ( Just joined TN )

Finally got a metal detector, just a $180 (aud) Kmart jobby though. Did a small part of my yard last weekend and found my first coin :o. I was soooo stoked and it was only a common 1c piece. Only problem was that I hit it with the pick thingy and scratched it ::) ::). It's the one on the right.
I also got out to the beach with a Minelab GP3000 that I borrowed from work ;D. That thing has awesome depth to it. Found a whole heap of crap (other pic) but it was still great fun. So wanna buy the Minelab, but it's a bit out of my price range ;D ;D
Thanks for looking.

Welcome to TNet
And look at it this way better to scratch a 1c then something old was still good practice.

The ding is your mark on it as your first coin. Welcome to TN and the hobby. You don't need an expensive detector to have fun with this hobby. Good luck.

They got Kmart in Australia? Or has the Kmart reputation travelled that far? Calling something a Kmart jobby, or a blue light special is the norm here in the land of the big K. But I about spit my teeth out when I saw that from an Aussie. Cool digs BTW. Bongo

Welcome to Tnet and congrats on getting out and digging up your first finds. I am sure there are many more in your future!
Happy hunting

Welcome to Tnet, Yarrum.

I like your terminology (Kmart jobby, pick thingy, heap of crap). I look forward to your posts. ;D

Hey great score, that'd be like me finding a 1/4 or somethin' over here. Looks like she's in good nick too.

Welcome to Tnet. That isn't bad, at least you found a coin your first time out. All I found my very first time out was some pulltabs and about three lead fishing weights (which is okay b/c I put them in the tackle box ;D)

Ok. Now what does this "$180 (aud) Kmart jobby" looks like?

I once had a Canadian Tire, ummm... errrrr.... detector??? It basically beeped at anything. I think I found it somewhere. It was barely good enough for finding bolts lost in the grass. Basically a toy and not in the class of what many women would call; "mens' toy's".

And, do you really need a metal detector in a land so rich in gold, that you have to goose-step around nuggets? ;)

Here I thought all aussie's had a nose for gold and all they needed was a Crocodile Dundee style knife and a supply of vegemite to go walkabout with. ;D

Crikey.. :D
Yep those bloody pesky nuggets, always trippin' over them ;D ;D
The detector isn't too bad I spose, found a bit more stuff in the yard today and another 1c (didn't hit this one with the digger) ::)
As for vegemite it's part of a good Aussie diet ;) :D

Thanks for everyone's posts

Not a bad "looking" MD there, compared to my old relic's. No digital display on mine, I just point my old White's Coinmaster, (has one knob, a speaker and an earphone jack), or my equally ancient Garrett, (has two knobs, a battery level guage, a couple of switches for discrimination, a speaker and an earphone jack), (both early 80's vintage), and hope that when beeps theres something there worth digging. But, they work.

At least I've got good loose soil around here. Mostly varying degree's of sand and clay. I am so looking forward to this summer and checking out the area's around this past winters avalanche's and the more recent rock slides and mud slides.

If your ever inclined to come up to this side of the earth, (British Columbia, Canada), bring vegemite. I love the stuff, but its real hard to find in the stores here.
