Who would paint gold? There are very few paints if any that will stick to gold. Gold is like a nonstick sufrace, that's why it's so important in electronics.

not for sure its paint. just red something also found a penny by it that had some red on it to. ring was not painted it has something (maybe paint) on it.

If it were mine I'd go ahead and rub a small part of it, the bottom of course, with sandpaper since it's actual $ value wouldn't be affected. If it still looks like gold then have it tested. I hope it's real and HH!

dollydazed , I'm certainly not too proud to eat "humble pie " I've F----- up before, I really hope you have the real deal - just remove all doubt
and get it tested !

could have been in a spot that was fertilized heavily

A 1 minute soak in lacquor thinner, and scrub with a toothbrush, and all the paint will be gone! Great find!

The rings that I have found over the years that were marked and looked like that were always fake . I found a large pendent about 6 years ago that was marked 18k and had that same color . I cleaned it and cleaned it and it turned out to be brass . Just like most everyone else has said , just test it and you will know . If not I'm sure you will strike gold soon !
Just my thoughts ,
Glen

Sorry man but I think you found yourself a Brass faker. Here's a ring I found at the beach about a year ago, it's stamped "18k 750" but it's definitely brass. Brass seems to have a certain smell to it if you rub it, also seems to make a different sound than gold if you drop it on a table..

Wow Dave, yours sure cleaned up well. That's a good $10 - $20 ring.

ScooperDave is right...rub that ring on your palm until it gets hot...gold will have no odor...that ring will stink.

i like the ting test too, drop it on the table, then drop one of your other gold rings, the difference is unmistakable.
