After dealing with 14 yr olds for two hours, I decided to check on my spring moneymaker, Ramps. Quick def. for those not in or around the Appalachian Mountain chain.

"Ramps, (Allium tricoccum or Allium tricoccum var. burdickii, Alliaceae) also known as wild leeks, are native to the Appalachian mountain region in eastern North America (Fig. 1). Ramps can be found growing in patches in rich, moist, deciduous forests as far north as Canada, west to Missouri and Minnesota, and south to North Carolina and Tennessee. As one of the first plants to emerge in the spring, ramps were traditionally consumed as the seasons first “greens.” They were considered a tonic because they provided necessary vitamins and minerals following long winter months without access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Ramps are pleasant to eat and taste like spring onions with a strong garlic-like aroma. They are often prepared by frying in butter or animal fat with sliced potatoes or scrambled eggs. They are also used as an ingredient in other dishes such as soup, pancakes, and hamburgers. They can also be pickled or dried for use later in the year."

Makes me think of fiddleheads in the northeast in the spring. First thing out of the ground.

Congrats on the bottles.....

I don't pick them because its tough to ID the proper fern. That being said, I haven't seen them pop up yet. I think its going to be a real short season to forage.

Nice Raritan Bay Striper!...Still waiting for them to come up the Hudson, maybe this warm spell will warm up the water enough to put them on the feed, one can only hope. Clam/Worm/Peanut Bunker?
That is a Delaware Bay striped bass, I caught him on a bunker chunk. That pic was last spring, I have hundreds of pix like that, we have caught many bass over the last twenty some years(my son and I) This spring is just getting ready to bust loose. Here is a pic of my boy and Racer

Nice fish. I broke the 50lb mark last year off of Cliffwood beach on a snotty clam, put her back to make lil' stripers. I think the striper season in the hudson is pretty much a goner, all the cows have pretty much bypassed us, since the weather and the water temps kept there mouths shut. Now they are On their way to the federal damn in Albany to get their groove on. Maybe we will hit them on the return.

looks like it is going to be a good spot its nice when you can see them right on top but its whats underneath that usually ends up being great good luck
