Well...let's just say that some kinds of research seem better than others and so far I have tried a lot of most. Libraries, historical societies, online and CDRom maps, you name it.
But...(using Dale Brown or Tim Clancey speak) sometimes HUMINT is the BEST kind of information. Anyone outside of you ex-military types or fans of military thrillers know what that is? It's an acryronym for Human Intelligence.
Let's just say that someone kinda told me of where there was a stagecoach stop/hotel and tavern WAY back when, and Mirage and I went a searching and talked to an old man and HE kinda gave us MORE info and then searches of that county's tax records gave me MORE data and then LOTS of phone calls revealed the current owner and THEN I talked to the sheriff of that county and basically I have the thumbs up from all involved.
Several problems exist:
Folks in this area are straight out of Deliverance and I am hesitant to leave my truck unattended (and this spot is WELL back into the woods on a long-abandoned road)
Closest safe parking is more than a mile away.
The place itself is more than 2 hrs away.

The rewards though may be VERY VERY good. It's highly unlikely that anyone's detected there before. This place is NOT know about even by the area's sheriff! Thoughts of drunken stage passengers and hotel guests have me pumped up right now. Spring cannot come soon enough!!

Has anyone here detected this type of area? The old man said the foundations aren't too hard to find (BTW, this is WAY back in the boondocks...many miles from the nearest town of any size)

Wish me and Bob and Nate luck! (I'll have to feel that it's safe before I take my young son there)

WOw, sounds like this could be shaping up to be a sweet adventure! I look forward to seeing some pics of the things that you will find!!

Danimal,
Sounds like you're onto something fun and hopefully profitable. Looking forward to more down the road.
I think Burt Reynolds and Ned Beatty are looking for something to do, since they don't seem to be too busy. At least Ned could throw some of those local boys off your trail. Just a thought. ;D
Thanks for the post.

Sounds like there could be some great finds. Just be safe, and make sure your Bob and Nate are with. They will watch your back!

Good luck~

If there are 3 of you, I wouldnt worry to much. If you feel unsafe, leave and come back another time. The place has been there for a long, long, long time...I doubt it will go anywhere!

find a cooler then very carfully and professionally as possible
stencil
BIO-HAZARD
DISEASED
HUMAN BLOOD
TISSUE/ORGAN
DO NOT OPEN
then tape the lid down with some kind of red or fancy blue tape(with like a industrial logo on it)
leave it in plan sight
on second thought they may not be able to read :-\ ;D

Danimal, I would rather hunt in the boondocks any day. There are less distractions out there and most people are just that, people. Don't worry so much and have a great time out there. Of course, if you stumble upon a bear I would be a little wary of his intentions.

Smith & Wesson, these guys are great hunters Ive taught them alot as they watch from a good hidden place, as far as the vehicle is concerned.....Ha....Id go rent one and get that 3 dollar a day insurance they offer just in case it does get to be too much fun for someone.
