It's approximately 6" long and the ball is approximately 1.5" in width. It's looks as if it may have been originally mated to a hardwood pole of sorts but for what purpose? The property, where the item was dug, is an old farm but the house no longer stands. It's extremely heavy and my guess is its made of brass.
A friend found this.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Mike......that one is in nice shape. If you or your friend are ever feeling crafty on a rainy day , and know someone in need.....those hayne toppers make beautiful canes.
Buff that top to a lustre and add that special piece of hardwood(should already have screw holes) and uala! Ive gifted a couple ...but have no pics.
