Well I thought I would try for some more capbadges on the Dump field & got a couple (that I need again).

A hallmarked silver ring - Birmingham - 1894

Star find - A coin which has been on my top 5 wish list for years:

Julius Caesar silver Denarius - dated 49-48BC - 100 years before the conquering of Britain.

Julius was the first to invade Britain but failed. Looking at the coin it has 100 years of wear & although minted in Rome came over in the late 1st century AD.
See better example:

THIS IS OUR FIRST ROMAN 'BC' COIN - WHOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO :o :o ;D ;D

Wow!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o

IF WE HADN'T FOUND THIS LAST WEEK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PLOUGHED IN BY NOW & WE MAY NEVER HAVE FOUND IT.

Luck plays a big part in detecting. Specially as I was running out of options again & they ploughed this field which will give me weeks of work. Until the harvest comes ;D

That's a great find, but in America we don't have the chance to find those kind of coins.

Looks like you made it! Congratulations (bleedin Limey :D)

THANKS TO THE POWERS THAT BE! 8)

and to all that help me get my first banner item. :)

It really is a find of a lifetime for me!

On this side of "the pond" anything over 200 years old is considered ancient. I cannot imagine the feeling of finding a 2000 year old coin!!!

Simply Amazing!!

AWSOME FINDS:

Doesn't the English government want all artifact finds be reported to them? I read on one of the British metal detecting sites i`ve been to and it said all finds have to go through them.

Is this true and do you get to keep the coin? HOPE SO:)

Single gold or silver coins I can keep by Law. Find two or more close to each other & I have to report them. ;D

Excellent find Crusader,I wish you many more!! To all those who think you can't find anything like that here in the u.s. you'd better think again! Three years ago my dad took an 87 AD roman bronze off the coast of maine.Although not silver and not quite as old as yours crusader it has been authenticated and is probably the oldest coin ever found in the u.s.. Does it prove anything?Maybe, maybe not, there's no telling how it got there but what it does prove is that you should never underestimate what might come out of the ground next in the most unlikely place.Congrats again, Bootstrap

Congratulations doesn't even do your find justice. Well, to me anyway...WOW!!!!!!!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)...And 7 cool faces too. Amazing find for sure.

Congrats on your find: fantastic.
A comment about "tyre kicker's" coin: If it is not an original, it is not a legal copy in the States since it does not comply with the Hobby Protection Act which dictates what a replica coin must contain, and the legal dimension of the word 'COPY' that must be incursed into each replica.

Your coin is great.
Some say it was the first coin struck in the name of Julius Caesar. It is ID-ed as Sear # 1399. The elephant trampling a serpent signifies Caesar's conquest of 'good over evil'; the Romans over the Gauls. The images on the reverse are the 'possession' of Caesar's rank (sometimes indicated as 'Pontifex Maximus' --high priest). These objects are the simpulum (backwards "J" object--a vessel), a 'sprinkler', an axe and a priest's hat.

A couple of years ago this coin fetched between $500 and $600 in Fine to Very Fine condition.
Again, great find!!

Same over here but with the mark 'WRL' which it has.
