I hit the ghost town about 45 mins from my house today and all I came away with was 1 wheat, I think it say 1919, so it is my first older coin, it was only my 3rd time out with my new MXT so i am still trying to figure it out,, by the way I live in oklahom if anyone wants to know,

The ghost town had alot of targets and alot of trash, I found some old fittings, and some old sink things in the ground, there has to be some good coinage there but alot of trash and no money for another coil, so any ideas, any one want to hit the town with me, I am home on leave and I am going to iraq in about 2 months so I want to get some detecting done before I go....

We have a lot of ghost towns here, and your right, there is a ton of trash in them! I think people just threw stuff on the ground where ever they happen to be standing when they were done with it. What worked best for me was really getting to know what my machine was trying to tell me. It also helps to dig those bad targets so they are not blocking out good ones.

Chris, I'd say you did OK. everytime out is a learning experience- especially with a new detector.
You'll get the hang of it and start finding great stuff.
Enjoy your time in the states and be careful over there.
Good luck & HH

Congrats on your finds Chris! It'll just get better and better!

Hi Chris!

I just wanted to say THANKS! I'm always honored to make the acquaintance of those serving our country. During peace or war time it's great to know that there are those that are willing to take the responsibility to represent the U.S.A.

Good luck on the finds and Take Care!

John

Where are you in Oklahoma? Monty

Hey Okie. Congrats on the first old wheatie. The other posts are right. You just need to work with your machine until you get the hang of it. Kind of like paying your dues. Take one area that looks to be a good spot. Maybe outside of an old building that might look to be a store, and just work that area. Dig all the trash and pull it out. You will soon start to see some good targets. Good luck and stay safe in Iraq. Thanks for helping to protect us too. God Bless and congrats...Lance

Hi, I am Burdie I live two miles from the Oklahoma line. When I leave the saloon I might find myself in Oklahoma but I don't live there. ;D ;D ;D
Welcome to the forum. From a JAYHAWKER!!! RV I am your Kansas friend not Okie friend LOL
thats fight'n words. ::) ::) ::)

Burdie

LOL :D My Kansas friend Burdie. I knew darn well you were in Kansas and it beats the tar out of me how I placed you across the border.
My apologys to all on both sides the border.
Obviously, I had my head phones on front to back again instead of left to right.
Okielawman If you get the chance to detect with either one or all three. You just couldn't find any more knowledgable or better people to hunt with than Burdie, Stoney and Monty HH
