Hey All,
I'm just a noobie that got lucky through perserverence and good old luck,
Here's some background history on me:
Started MD'ing middle of last month, bought a used Viper for $200 and just started hitting all 4 beaches here in SW florida for 2 weeks straight, found about $10 in clad ($5 of it was in one day all in quarters in a 2 meter area) and some costume jewelry, but no luck on finding anything worth posting. So I decided to sell an 18K mens bracelet @ 39 grams I had (paid $300 back in 2000 for it ,when I was deployed in the sand box) and was able to get $780 as scrap for it. So then I was on the hunt for a used minelab excaliber ( did alot of research on these on-line, and they seem to be the best for beach MD'ing). So my first streak of luck was finding an Excaliber 1000 (2005 model) for $725 from a guy up in Orlando this last Tuesday. It came with the straight shaft upgrade with stainless steel arm wrap, extra alkaline battery pod and a coil cover. It definitely showed some use and the guy said the rechargeble pod was the original, so he wasn't sure how much time it would hold. Well on wed I let the batteries charge overnight and used the alkaline pod to due some practice in my backyard using clad and some gold and silver rings to try and get use to the different tones. So today thursday on my first outing to try my new (used) Excaliber heres what I found after 3 hours of MD'ing at one beach (2 hours chest high wading, 1 hr surfs edge) the ring was found at the surfs edge at approx 15 inches wet sand (took me 5 full scoops to get to it). Hope you like it (sorry for the pics, still getting used to my "macro" lenses for my camera) :hello2:

The guy you bought it from, did he work at Sunshine?

What you have there my fellow tnet friend....is the REAL deal! They would not put platinum in a setting with CZ's.

I congratulate you on hitting the jackpot and I vote BANNER!!!!!!!!!

:wav:

PS The LEO diamond is a very high quality diamond

I must admit I was a little skeptical about all the hype over Minelab's Excaliber's, but now you can count me as a true believer :notworthy:

Thanks again for all the great comments

HYPE??? I guess you now know why most owners think so highly of the Excal.

Careful,it says on the web site for leo diamonds, every ring the center stone is laser etched with an id number, you can even look up the master crafter that created it.

Here's a link and an excerpt from the Leo Diamond site. Looks like you can find out all you need to know about the diamonds in that ring just by entering the ID numbers. I'm not sure if it's possible to read them while they are in the setting, but if so this should give you a pretty good estimate as to the value of the ring.

"Obviously, you've made an absolutely brilliant choice! (Or, someone who adores you made it for you.) Because you now possess your very own, entirely unique Leo Diamond.

Using your unique Leo identification number you can discover everything there is to know about your Leo Diamond: how it was crafted and how it got to be The Leo it is today.

You'll actually be able to meet the artisan who designed, cut and polished your Leo Diamond. And see the IGI and GemEx Certifications for your Leo. "

WTG on that ring, what a beauty :icon_thumleft: Welcome to T-net and look forward to your future posts.

AWESOME DUDE! Yes, please get the appraisal done and let us know an update.
P.S. I just showed my wife this post and she said "tell him I want that!" LOL

Great find!! Exciting, is'nt it?

Hey All,

So here's the update I promised. After a little cleaning and buffing on the band by my brother-in-law, ring looks alot brighter. So after getting some info with leo #, found out it is a 1.5 carat and had an appraised value between 8-9K ( which my bro-inlaw said is most definitely over inflated, guess it's the norm in the jewelry business when it comes to retail). But found a similar ring on line same carat and diamond quality (see pic). So after calling the IGI on the appraisal to maybe track down an owner, got a rather short and snooty answer from the other person on the line. He stated the leo# is to only authenticate the diamonds and the other metals that the rings are made of and that the appraisal is done before it is sent off to be sold through retail stores. The leo# is not used to tracked ownership and that they do have means to provide who purchased the ring and if they did, it is not their business practice to provide personal info. So before I could provide some means of maybe contacting me, I was hung up on. ??? So kinda sums up any possibilities of tracking down any owner, but from what my bro-inlaw stated that is no surprise. So anyways enjoy the updated pic's. Thanks again for all the great comments. HH
