Historic aerials is pretty good, they have topos and aerial photos with an overlay function that is handy.I don,t know how far back you want to go,sometimes late 1930s to early 1940s is as far back as they go.At least in my part of Arkansas. Try topoview and oldmapsonline.org too. Give you a starting point. If you can,t get what you want at these, just put in a search for old and historic maps.Does anyone know any historic or old map websites?

David, welcome to Treasurenet. Nice blog with some nice reference materials. I use to deal in antique newspapers and maps years ago, Harpers Weekly Leslie's Weekly.David Rumsey. https://www.davidrumsey.com/

There is a research forum here with many threads on this topic. I’m researching the same stuff currently. Your local historical societies may have map libraries too. If you’re lucky, they may have even digitized some of them.
I've been using that one as well. It's awesome but those watermarks and the blurry resolution drive me crazy. I haven’t tried purchasing a map file from them yet, maybe the quality is a little better?I LOVE Historicaerials "Viewer" https://historicaerials.com/viewer
There you can enter your area of interest/address and select an aerial map by date and a topographical map by date and compare them by using the "compare" feature and a transparency setting and slider.
The first time I used it was a little hard to see what I was doing, but once I understood, it has opened up the world to me.
