I looked at this last night and was thinking about it on the way to work this morning. I was gonna say it was the top to a make up tin with some type of animal attached as decoration.

So...now I'm gonna say it was the top to a make up tin with a Parrot attached as decoration.

Here's a thought...

Could this be a baby related item? The "symbol" could be the shape of an infant laying on it's back and reaching up.

BTW... How big is it?

My first reaction was baby but it looks odd that the legs dont bend at the knees. Its has the head of a baby and the legs of a goat or hoofed animal. :icon_scratch:

I have a vague memory from my childhood, the milkman used to let me and a friend ride on his truck and help him deliver milk and our pay was a quart of chocolate milk. Run up to the house, grab the empties and drop off the full.
Them old bottles I believe had a hinged cap to them. Maybe just the buttermilk...but pretty sure some of them had those.
Mr. Upkey...yea...still remember his name all these years later...had his own business so maybe milk companies that were small had their own style bottles. They were returnable back in them days...lol

My first and only impression was of a baby. Maybe a lid to talc or baby powder. The crimped edge suggests it was locked onto the top of a container. The hinged part most likely held the closure. I wonder if it was shaped like the depression. Arty

I've changed my mind. Originally I thought it might a lid for spices or snuff, but after thinking about 'why' there would be an opening at the top, I think it might be the lid to a sachet container. The lid would open to put in potpourri or whatever smelled good, and the opening at the top would allow the smell to go out into the area, which was generally the dresser drawers or wardrobe. Thanks for the replies so far. This item still has me puzzled. I'm sure I've seen
similar items some times before, but just can't recall where, or what for.

It does kinda look like a hammer with a broken handle. Its a strange shape. :icon_scratch: I kinda like the dental floss idea but Im not sure its depicting a molar. I thought someone would say parrot food. :P
