Hi Folks; This is Barker. I just read a Post from a 14 yr old boy whose father died when he was 6 yrs old and is being raised by his mother and grandmother. He wants a metal detector to help him find cool stuff to use to help his mother with. I don't know about anyone else but I think this kid especially deserves all the help "WE" can give him and make his wish come true. I wish to God I could do it but I'm dealing with a broken back and neck while taking care of my own kid. I just can't do it but I would in a split second.

I knwo it sounds heartless...But there are WAY to many people out there trying to scam people. I can tell you that my first thought of this post was " Ok, Someone looking for a freebie, with a sob story.

Again, Im not trying to sound heartless.. But if the story was shortened to , just someone young guy that wants to start detecting and doesnt have the funds..i would feel better.


But to hear SO many things, its sounds like your Typical Scam.

Mark, hopefully you are on the up and up. I will be very honest with you. When I read your post earlier today, it did sound like another scam. As an honest young man, you would need to be very careful about how you word things that you write. I get e-mails from Nigeria every single day and have been for years - most of us here have, as with everyone in the world it seems. Working for what a person needs is a very admirable trait! I do now stand with TH's analysis as to your integrity.

I would suggest you aggressively look into how you'll get your detector to the Yucatan. I've never taken a detector into another nation, so I'd be interested in knowing what you run into. I presume you'll be detecting on private property. It's always best to know what a nation's laws about detecting are - the noose is even tightening on us in the USA.

With your budget you won't be able to hunt in wet saltwater sand or in saltwater. The Tesoro Compadre is very capable in dry sand, dirt, and the coil is waterproof in shallow FRESH water but NOT the control box.

If you want to take a detector into the wet salt sand or salt water your cost goes up 3 to 4 times your stated budget...

Hi Folks; First, let me apologize for having asked to help a young guy in his position. Mark did not ask me to do or say anything on his behalf. I read his Post and understood that this was a young man stuck and telling the truth. Yup, I get the spam from Nigeria, China etc. all the time. This to me is a case that "deserved" special attention. I do wish to God I could help him. That is why I Posted it.
I now understand Treasure Hunters point and did not mean to break the Rules. For that I apologize.
I hope that this clears that up. I also hope it does not discourage Mark in his pursuit as I believe it is Honorable. It is with this said that in the future I will use the PM method on matters like this ok. Thank you; PEACE:RONB

Look in the vendor forums here. I've seen a lot of vendors actively buying and selling used detectors. Everything I've seen on Craigslist here locally (Virginia) is a NO buy!
