Have been really liking my HF elliptical coil, but last Thursday it pretty much amazed me.
Let's back up a year to when I first obtained permission to hunt an 1850s-60s site located on the corner of a rural (but well traveled) crossroad. Power lines on 2 sides of the property proved to generate a ton of EMI. When hunted last year, I had to turn the sensitivity down to around 85, the frequency up to 17.6, adjusted silencer up to 3. (9" lf coil) Even then it was very difficult to hear what was going on in the ground due to the EMI. Still managed to find a few flat buttons, some copper slaw and a massive headache. To date, this has been the worst EMI I have experienced detecting. Last week the crops were finally harvested so I decide to give it another go with the HF elliptical coil. Using the hot program at 28.8 kHz it was like hunting a site without any EMI. Since I could now hear what is in the ground, I discover that some of the older nonferrous target are closer to the road. Along with plenty of aluminum can slaw, started digging pieces of harmonica reeds, a flat button and finally the pictured '59 fatty about 10 feet from the road. Directly below power lines!
