I found this today at one the farm's at Antiteam.....It's solid brass,1 1/2" in diameter and almost 3/4" at the thickest part. There's a 1/4" hole on that side.Thought there might be a set screw in it but it doesn't go thru....Any Idea's would be greatly appreciated....Thank's

Civil,

It looks like some kind of a piston. This is the closest I could come with a pic...

Looks like some type of valve for something? Perhaps there was a "stick/lever"type object in the hole on the side to turn it?Very interesting.HH

Can't say for sure but it looks like a snap ring went around the top....a hint for someone else? Monty

I'm wondering if it is part of a music box. They had a thin metal comb that would pitch the tune as it ran over the "bumps". It would be an odd design being the recent were cylinders- maybe one of the eary designs? ????

It has obviously been manufactured on a lathe; you can see the post marks. I think it looks like part of a corroded fan belt pulley. It might help to see a view of the rear. My second thought was part of a cam mechanism. We need to know if the hole is threaded and what the rear looks like.

Here ya go Ant....The hole is only a 1/4" deep and no is it not threaded. No where to hook up any kind of connecting rod, kinda dismissing the piston idea. Here's a couple pic's of the back...Good luck and thank's...
