Dowser, you say: "Why would I dig a Meteorite 5 ft. deep?". Huh? You said it was worth $80,000.00. Are you crazy? Or are you a millinionaire and don't want to be bothered with pesky small amounts like that? Heck I've dug beach pits (down to bedrock on pocket beaches where coins settle to) 6 ft. down, just to pitch out some IHs and toasted barbers. And lest you think sand is easy, yeah, sure, maybe not as hard as dirt, but for every foot of bottom space, the top of the hole has to be 10x as big accross, d/t sand slip-shodding in. So we basically have to dig in a V-shape, but on land, you can dig right down in more of a shaft. In any case, even if it coudn't be dug out by hand, for $80,000.00, I'd rent a bobcat tractor.
So c'mon, something's not jiving with your story. Unless you have scores of the $80,000.00 meteors that are only a foot down, so you go after the easy ones instead? Simple math tells me that if you only dug one a week at that rate, you must be a multi-millionaire by now! Or do you want to revise your story?
