Hmm...From what I'm seeing the shank's been broken off in the middle indicating that it's a button and if so, while I'm guessing here I'll say it's a Victorian era women's coat

button. It looks like there was an outer layer to the button where there may have been some sort of design pattern as well, cool find! :thumbsup:

I'm going to go with a large button, as well. I'm thinking it may have been a 'non-functional' decorative button that was once cloth covered. Just a swag on my part.
