Hey hey diggers !
Well, here I go again doing the wash , rinse, and repeat thing in detecting and actually seeing the repeat thing happening for real.
The wash is getting out in some fields and digging some holes.
The rinse is finding a good site to dig. And the repeat is finding the same thing ...again! (Sort of)
I recently posted a button to id and by fluke really, was able to nail it down, it turned out to be a Massachusetts Militia button belonging to the National Lancers.
Fast forward to this hunt, me and Iron Patch finally got a field we have been looking at since early October. We had no problem finding the site(s) in this field, more like a progression of the three sites that ranged in age from the oldest being late 1700s/early 18s, into a early to mid 1800s, and finally mid 1800s to roughly WWl. Each was distinctly separate from the other but there was iron everywhere to link them all together.
Most of the finds were typical...your flat buttons,.coins of every age Georgian right up to early 20th century, odds and ends, and so much junk!
But amid the trash a gem appeared! Can you believe it another Massachusetts Militia button! This one was easily 50km( 30mi) from the other and both were over a 1000km( 600mi)from say Boston. Crazy coincidence...while I was researching this button I found the other one...what luck!
By the way it's the #27 in Albert's
Also pictured is a few frags of glass, when I see this glass in the ground I know I'm on an old site...it appears blue when you look at it in hand or on the ground but when you hold it to the light it's a pale green, I dont know what's going there but it's only at our 'ancient ' sites you see it
