Nobody seems to know what this is so I'm hoping I'm now in the right place to solve the mystery. This was found @ a site that dates to the late 19th century & I've heard of 1 being found @ a civil war area. Any info is appreciated.

The protuberances resemble metal concrete expansion anchors a lag bolt would screw into the anchor which would have been inserted into a drilled hole.I can,t explain the odd shape of the entire thing and the striations,unless concrete was poured over the entire assembly some how.It don,t feel Civil War like though.

@creakydigger It is made out of lead I'm pretty sure. Was told that patena is what happens to lead from being in the ground for so long. I thought it was originally paint, but it does wipe off easily. so I left it alone.

We found a nearly identical one. I can't remember who solved it but it is a repair poured down screw holes with lead. Nice to see another!!

Lenrac2, thank you, could you elaborate a little more on what kind of repair it is? Do u have a time period or any other info?

Dug and Mudhut speculated it was a possible boat repair. Most stuff in the area we found it in dated from around 1885 to 1940. Could possibly be older as there were CW camps and transport nearby. We haven't found any real CW items though. Ours was all lead. No screws inside it so the lead had to be poured into screw holes.

Lenrac2, that's the exact time range of my site and it does happen to have boat access, I just wouldn't think any 2 repairs would be the same. And I can't wrap my mind around the shape and diagonal pieces, or the other cylindrical section on the other picture I posted. I really can't wait to get to the bottom of this.

If you ever find a different explanation,.please let me know! Definitely odd pieces. Mine don't have the 3 grooves though.

Alright everyone I have found the answer. It is a 1895-1930 lead back weight from an old hickory golf club head. Possibly a brassie bulger due to its convex screw pattern on face side of club

Do you have a link or pic? The one we found is fairly near an old golf course! That would make sense!
