Help with trigger guard

Good evening everyone! I dug this today and I need help identifying the gun it belonged to. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I researched some this afternoon but wasn't able to find out anything. Thanks!!

Just off hand, I don't know. Is it brass or bronze? I don't see much rust.

I'm thinking brass. I've been detecting where a town use to bee. The Mississippi River wiped it out in the early 1900's. I mainly find late 1800's artifacts but I have found early 1800's as well.
