Hi all,

The small round item at the top is fairly heavy like its made out of lead and has rings on one side and rounded on the other with a dimple in the middle of it.
The larger round thing looks like something mechanical and is made of copper.
The bullet is fairly old with two rings on it. any help would be gladly appreciated.

thanks 20140830_193415.jpg

Watch part, shotgun brass and a sharps bullet. That is my guess. Welcome to the forum!

I agree on the watch part, sharps bullet however it doesn't look like a head stamp, maybe its due to the photo, but the primer marks are always off just a bit, this one looks too centered, plus there doesn't appear to be any markings along the rim..

Sorry, but I have to disagree that that's a Sharps bullet. No Sharps bullet has two narrow deeply-indented grooves encircling its body. Also, a US penny's diameter is about .749-inch, and the bullet laying on the penny in the photo looks like somewhat less than .5-inch in diameter. We need precise measurement of its diameter in hundredths-of-an-inch... and a true "sideview" photo of it we can see that shape of it upper part.

Understand, without proper measurements we can't know for sure. However I am extremely doubtful about the top item being a headstamp.

I am going to get one right someday. :tongue3: How about a Williams cleaner missing the base?

While we wait for Welgund to provide the precise measurements of his bullet...

Since some of y'all are asking about Williams "bore-cleaner" bullets:
ALL the versions of Williams bullets are .58-caliber... measuring about .570" to .574" in diameter (except for the Union Repeating Gun version, which measure .582" in diameter).

The Williams Type 1 has what MuckyBottles called a "nub" on its base, which is actually the exposed part of a rivet-stud. It held a thin disc-shaped zinc washer onto the bullet's base. See the photo below. I should mention, with excavated Williams Type bullets, the thin zinc washer is almost always partly or entirely corroded away.

The Williams Type 2 and Type 3 had a hardened-lead "thumbtack" for holding the zinc washer onto the bullet's base. Other photos below show unfired Wiliiams Type 2 and Type 3 bullets.

I'll include one more photo, to give Tnmountains some friendly-intended education, helping him "get one right." :) The final photo shows that sometimes the "thumbtack" is found partially pulled out, or entirely missing from the bullet's base. When it's missing, you see the .21"-diameter hole where the "thumbtack" fit into the bullet's base.
