Help with the brass i.d.

Here's a solid square piece of brass, approx. the size of a quarter with what appears to be the number "14" stamped on the surface.
I've attached photos showing both the front and back views.
It was found at an old homesite in west central Mississippi this morning.
Any ideas

It looks to be what remains of a scale weight.
I'm thinking it was originally round and for some reason it's been cut down to the size it is now.
