Went out detecting for the first time today in Hawaii. We were out for three hours on the beach and had 0 signals. It’s a high traffic area so we know there’s likely metal around. We were using our t2 SE (our only detector) on all metal mode with sensitivity 60, HUM 0, and GC 50. Does anyone know what we’re doing wrong? I know the machine isn’t the best around saltwater but it’s all we have.

T2 SE is not a good detector for salt beaches, it is more a relic and coin shooting, it is single frequency detector and single frequency do not do well in salt environments.

You will need to turn your sensitivity down to at least 25% or less...

Try your luck above the high tide line.

I was going to ask specifically where you were hunting on the beach ? High and Dry or Low and Wet ?

I can tell you that even with a GREAT machine the wet sand can be devoid of targets..

Up in the dry sand as well but there is more trash up there...
Also
ALWAYS take along some pocket change, (include nickels because they read different) if your not getting any signals drop that shit in front of your coil to make sure your machine is functioning..
It does happen believe it or not..

Things to try
1. Find a Pier and try around that, it attracts a lot of attention,
2. Find a Public Parking area that doesn't charge or minimal charge for parking,
3. Anyplace that has close to beach side restaurants and amusements
4. Avoid areas that appear to have HIGH concentrations of Condos or Rental properties but otherwise no business properties because for some reason these places always seem bare to me, even if they are full of people..

If your walking in the WET sand and your machine seems to make a lot of noise, (Some single frequencies do some don't) turn the discrimination up until it's quiet, as the reaction is only on the very low conductivity scale.

If walking in the DRY sand, shoot for the area that is just above the HIGH TIDE line as this is the line where most people love to sit...

Good luck and let us know what happens..

He said Hawaii in first line, but not what beach.

A little confusion, I'm not trying to determine location more than wet or dry sand...
I'll clarify... Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I’m hunting Kaanapali beach. I tried both the wet and dry sand but I think I’ll stick to the dry. The place is covered up and down with resorts and restaurants. I’ll head out tomorrow and check my settings on some coins.

Sell that POS and get a Minelab Vanquish (Simultaneous Multi Frequency) machine.

I wouldn't feel too bad, I see these videos online of people finding tons of stuff on the beaches, but I have a top of the line machine and the beaches on the East Coast have not been productive for me for almost 10 years, and I've tried many beaches to the dismay of my wife.. who thinks this is a worthless hobby... 🤣
Maybe just see it as a good form of exercise ...
