Detector(s) used
Minelab Sov. Elite 5", 8" & 10" coils. EXP II 8" & 10" coils with inline Sunray pin pointer. AT Pro 8" & 10" Coils, Equinox 600 10" and 5" coils.
A friend of mine, he's in his 80's showed this to me today.
This was found in an attack of an old house in Chicago about 1950.
It was rolled up in the corner where the roof met the floor.
He took it, and had it framed by a pro at the time he found it.
It's been put away every since.
The paper, or what ever it is had wire in it,
Like parchment paper but with wire??
This is a picture of the picture, He gave me to show.
I saw the painting it self, and let me tell you,
It's almost erie looking, the eyes follow you no matter what angle you look at from.
Underneath the figure it has

Jesus Christius

Below that and to the right 1875

And at the top right, it looks like Gar. Max

If this is posted in the wrong spot, Mods feel free to move it

I know who it is,,But how old and if it's real or not
Can any body give me any info on it, or where to look??

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim! If you can't fnd the answer here... go to WetCanvas.com to the art history forum. I feel sure they can help you if this is a recognized artist. Do you know what medium was used to paint this?

Marcia the treasure_lady now in Texas!

I believe "Jesus Christius" is German?

The word "Gar" is often used in German language but I can't translate it's meaning in this case.

I do think that the word Max is a name.

I looked around a little and could not find much. Check out Gabriel Cornelius Ritter von Max. I know he painted a few paintings of Christ, but don't know if he did this style. Good luck and I will keep looking.

It is a painting by Gabriel max an Austrian born in 1840. the original is valued at 25,000$ and it is in a private collection in Austria. prints sell for 50$ or less.

That us some picture--looking at it on my monitor, it is actually quite unnerving--looks like He is looking right through you.
