That is pretty cool wish I could help. My only thought was maybe a miner had it for a gold pan.

The wood appears a lot like Cypress. That would go well with BOTB,s guess of a gold pan.Cypress is resistant to rot. That said, the grain on the bottom wood looks suspiciously like oak!

You found my woodshop bowl!
I may or may not have been under the influence of mind-altering drugs when I made it. But seriously folks...

That's a very cool item. It does look pretty old. I hope someone can narrow down the age range for you.

Looking for help identifying the age and wood of this bowl
It looks to have repairs where pieces were nailed on while drying and removed after and nails cut. Still trying to determine if nails were square nails
That’s a cool looking old bowl. If it could talk I bet it could tell some stories. Congratulations

When I was brought up we were very much in the country with wood stoves and such. That kind of bowl was used when my mother would make bread and when it was in the initial mass and needed to be set aside to allow time for the yeast to rise, that mass was kept in that bowl with a towel over it until it could be separated into individual loafs and placed in the oven.
