Hi everyone. This large copper was found in a field that produced other 1700s era items including the 1770(+/-) French 1 Sol coin and tombac buttons.

I realize this 28.1mm coin is very badly worn, and I don’t see much detail at all. But I do think there’s something in the yellow box, and I’m hoping someone recognizes it.
Any guesses are welcome.

I rotated it and from this angle, it reminds me of the back of King William III's portrait. Either him alone (c. 1695-1701) or with Queen Mary (1694).

Thank you Bramblefind, you might be on to something with your ID.
Using that lead I did some photo analysis, and you tell me what you think please.
  • The red arrows seem to align the spikes in King William's hair with some marks on the coin I found.
  • The blue arrows certainly seem to align the bottom of his bust with the curve on my coin.
  • Maybe I can imagine the green arrow aligning a mark on the left picture (which was in slightly different light) and the bun of his hair.
  • But there are places things don't line up, like with the yellow "?".
I don't know. I guess if I had to identify it I would probably think it's one of these King WIlliam III half-pennies (1699-1702). Numista listing

Thoughts from others?

In the top pic at the 9 o'clock position, I think I see the base of Britannia.
My money is on it being a George III as well.
